Weekly Update: Art Colloquium, Family Service & Member's Mtg

IMG_3185.jpeg

Over the past eight years, I've had the privilege of preaching several hundred sermons at The Painted Door. But heading into this Sunday, I feel a bit like a rookie again. That's because we'll be inviting the children to the front for a sermon directed especially to them. And kids are tough. It's be clear and engaging. Or be ignored.

The aim of this special message is three-fold: First, we want to honor our children as valued people in our congregation. Second, we want to familiarize them with the practice of receiving God's word through preaching. And third, we want to highlight that the same gospel meal can nourish our entire church family.

As the number of little ones in our midst continues to climb, we need practice handing down the treasures of God that we have received. Our parents and children's teachers get that practice regularly, but we all need it. Offering Jesus from one generation to the next is a community project.

So consider this week's sermon a community effort. I'll do the preaching, however feeble my first attempt at a children's message may be. And you all can do the praying and the patient listening. Let's practice together.

- Pastor Mark

THIS COMING SUNDAY

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE:
SECRET SAVIOR

Mark 5:35-43
Pastor Mark Bergin

Jesus came to the earth to share his life with us. But his life is more than just walking and breathing and playing. His life is peace with God. And he means to share it with us, even if we don’t know we need it.
