Last Sunday, we entered a joyous season in the church calendar called Eastertide. This is the 50-day period stretching from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday when we marvel at the new reality Christ's resurrection brought into the world. A reality no longer defined by death. A reality in which the unrelenting life of God has invaded and conquered death from the inside out.

At The Painted Door, our observance of this season will include weekly testimonies from church members of life invading death. And we'll be preaching through the nine stories in the Bible of people being raised from the dead.

Thereafter, we enter the summer months and so-called Ordinary Time in the church calendar. But our elders have designs of making this time a bit extra-ordinary. We are working to craft a summer teaching series that will address some of today's most pressing social issues. To do this well, we want to hear from all of you. Specifically, we are interested to know what exactly are the pressing issues in your life that you would appreciate having your pastors expound upon via the gospel of Jesus.

We've created a short survey to solicit anonymous feedback on this question. Those planning to join us for Sunday worship during June, July, or August (or even those simply planning to stream sermon content online) are encouraged to respond.

THIS COMING SUNDAY

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.

THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE:
YOUR SON LIVES

1 Kings 17:17-24
Pastor Mark Bergin

The prophet Elijah was often faithless. He questioned the care and provision of God when hardship befell him. Yet his faithlessness had no bearing on God’s commitment to him. Repeatedly, God met Elijah’s faithless heart and faithless words with acts of faithful mercy. No matter how much Elijah seemed to give up on God, God never gave up on him. No matter the trial or the depth of the miracle needed, God’s persistence in care for Elijah prevailed. So unrelenting was God’s fatherly love that it filled Elijah to overflowing and watered the scorched earth wherever he went. Even the fiercest drought could not dry up the life within him.
