Led to Lament // For He Has Delivered // Jeremiah 20:1-18 // Nov 16 2014

The more I am in a position to be tried in faith with reference to my body, my family, my service for the Lord, my business, etc., the more shall I have opportunity of seeing God’s help and deliverance; and every fresh instance, in which He helps and delivers me, will tend towards the increase of my faith.
— George Muller

The life of faith cannot sidestep torment. The people of God either proclaim his word and suffer mockery and resistance or shut their mouths and suffer the burn of truth unspoken. This is the trap of life with God, to possess what all the world needs yet with no power to pierce deaf ears. As it did with Jeremiah, this trap leads the people of God into a cycle of complaint, trust, petition, and finally praise. But the resolution of praise offers no remedy for the trap of faith. We praise with that trap ever close at hand, remembering God's foretastes of deliverance as signs of hope that a final deliverance will come.
