Led To Lament // A Lying Vision // Jeremiah 14:13-18 // Nov 2 2014

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort, you will not get either comfort or truth, only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.
— C.S. Lewis

No one listened to Jeremiah in his day because he spoke of an unpleasant reality. The people of Judah did not want Jeremiah's words to be true. And so they sought prophets promising a more pleasant vision. But the salvation of the Lord is not pleasant. It travels though fire and valleys and graves. Any prophet who says otherwise is no prophet of God, offering only a lying vision. We live in the birth pains of an old creation giving way to the new. By faith, we know that the arrival of the new creation is sure. And we live in the confidence of that hope. But a laboring mother's knowledge that her baby is at hand does not spare her from the pain of childbirth. And it is a hateful thing for anyone to tell her otherwise.
